With advances in drone technology come the inevitable disclaimers stating how NOT to use them, and this father decided to make his disclaimer loud and clear.
With shotgun in hand and a few rounds of birdshot ready to head down-barrel, he shot one $1,800 drone right out of the sky; though to be fair it was spying on his 16-year-old sunbathing daughter!
William Merideth, drone shooter.
William Meredith is a 47-year-old Kentucky father who knows exactly where to draw the line when it comes to his families privacy. He first noticed the drone flying about his neighbor’s property, hovering mainly around the windows. Eventually he noticed it had made it’s way over to his property, right by his sunbathing daughter, and had enough of the shenanigans. He grabbed his shotgun and loaded three sprays of birdshot, clipping that electronic bird’s wings once and for all! In an interview with Ars Technica, Meredith stated:
“It was just right there. It was hovering. I would never have shot it if it was flying. When he came down with a video camera right over my back deck, that’s not going to work.”
Another surprise soon followed however, as the drones owners arrived at Meredith’s property, where they also met hostility.
“If you cross that sidewalk onto my property, there’s going to be another shooting,” Meredith said to the new arrivals.
Ensuring his daughter wasn’t turned into some pervert’s newest target came with a bit of a price for him though. After the police arrived Meredith was formally charged with first-degree criminal mischief as well as first-degree wanton endangerment. All because he used his legally owned gun. He understands the point of the law however, and is confident the charges will get thrown out or at least lessened once he makes it to trial. What do you think? Share and discuss
