When You See What This Guy Put In The Back Of His Truck, You’ll Be So Jealous. This Is Genius!
Where does the expression “happy camper” come from? While there is some debate on the origin of this term, there is no denying that camping has been part of a long tradition of living the American dream. Unfortunately, buying or renting a camper can be very expensive. So what can one do?
Reddit user tylerthompson21 had an idea. He would build his own. Check out this DIY self-styled adventure mobile. He starts with a truck and some basic equipment. Along with basic materials, and a good amount of craftsmanship, he saved himself years of waiting to be able to afford the real thing and instead, designed something way cooler!
The frame and ball bearings installed in the bed of the truck.
The frame is bolted together with angle iron for easy removal.
He used skateboard bearings for the drawer slides (they can handle a lot of weight).
1×1 square tubing for the drawer slide.
This is starting to look pretty awesome.
The drawer and its dividers.
Hatch to hold a battery.
Another hatch, this one a perfect size for a tent or sleeping bags.
The lock for the drawer.
Another lock to secure the drawer.
A locking system to keep the box from sliding.
The frame, now coated with a water seal.
Other parts of the drawer varnished.
Sheet metal lock cover.
Power inverter and USB ports hooked up to the second battery.
LED light bars.
The drawer pulled out.
The finished product. Bed in place and ready for some adventures!
